Claude Team plan for a UK business: the cost in pounds, and whether it is worth it.

By Zain M · 24 September 2026 · 14 min read

The Claude Team plan costs a UK business about £15 a seat a month on annual billing or £19 monthly, before VAT, at Anthropic’s list price of $20 or $25 converted at today’s rate. It starts at two seats, includes central billing, single sign-on and admin controls, and by default nothing your team types is used to train Anthropic’s models. Premium seats with five times the usage cost about £75 to £94. It is worth it for any firm where more than one person uses Claude for work, because the Pro plan they would otherwise buy trains on their conversations unless each person opts out.

The price in pounds, worked through

Anthropic lists the Team plan in US dollars only: $20 a seat a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly for a Standard seat, and $100 or $125 for a Premium seat with five times the usage. Individual and Team subscriptions are charged in dollars, so the sterling figure on your card statement moves with the exchange rate. At the rate on 24 September 2026, one dollar is about 75 pence, which gives the bands below. Team and Enterprise customers who want a genuine sterling invoice can ask Anthropic’s sales team for billing in another currency.

VAT is the second thing the dollar price hides. A UK business without a VAT number is charged 20 per cent on top. A VAT-registered business that enters its VAT number under Settings and Billing is normally invoiced without VAT and accounts for it under the reverse charge on its own return, which is cash-neutral for most firms. Ask your accountant to confirm the treatment; the invoice Anthropic sends after each charge carries an itemised tax line and the registration number your accountant will want.

What a Team seat gives you that Pro does not

The chat experience is the same product. What you are paying the extra £2 or so a seat for is the organisation around it: one bill, one admin who can add and remove people, single sign-on so leavers lose access when they leave the directory, and a set of controls over which connectors staff may plug Claude into. Anthropic’s own description is that a Team seat has more usage than Pro and that there is no model training on your content by default.

That last clause is the reason most UK firms should be on Team rather than a handful of Pro accounts. On the consumer plans, Free, Pro and Max, Anthropic asks each user to choose whether their chats can be used to train future models, and the choice is presented at sign-up and in a pop-up with the training option switched on. Someone who clicks through keeps their conversations in Anthropic’s training data with a five-year retention period. On the commercial plans that choice does not exist: the default is no training, and retention is set by the workspace.

Team seats also carry the tools a small firm actually uses day to day: Projects for shared context, Claude Code for whoever is technical, the Chrome and Microsoft 365 extensions, and scheduled tasks. The Premium seat is the same set with five times the usage allowance, which matters for the one or two people who run long documents through Claude all day and hit the limits on a Standard seat.

Two seats to 150: who Team is for

In July 2026 Anthropic cut the minimum from five seats to two, which removed the last reason a very small firm had to run on Pro accounts. The plan scales to 150 seats. Above that, or where you need the controls a regulated firm’s IT policy demands, you move to Enterprise.

The honest rule is this. One person who uses Claude for work: buy Pro, switch the training setting off, and put the £13 a month through expenses. Two or more people, or anyone who will paste client material into it: buy Team. The moment a leaver walks out with a Pro login that still has your client work in its history, the £2 a seat you saved stops looking clever.

Team or Enterprise

Enterprise is listed at $20 a seat a month billed annually plus usage that scales with the model and the task, which means the sticker price is the same as a Team Standard seat and the real cost depends on how hard people use it. What you buy is the compliance layer: spend controls, role-based access, SCIM provisioning from your directory, audit logs, a compliance API, custom data retention including a zero-retention option, network access control and IP allow-listing, and a HIPAA-ready configuration.

A firm needs Enterprise when a regulator, an insurer or a large client will ask to see the audit trail. A law firm answering the SRA, a financial adviser under the FCA, a supplier to the NHS, or anyone whose contracts require a specific retention period will find the Team plan cannot produce the evidence. Everyone else should start on Team and move if a client asks the question.

What it does not include

API usage is billed separately. If someone on your team builds an automation that calls Claude from a script, a Zapier zap or a custom system, that runs on the Anthropic API at per-token prices and appears on a different bill. The two are easy to confuse because Claude Code can be used with either. For most firms this is the right split: seats for people, API for software.

UK data residency is not included on any first-party plan. Anthropic’s regional compliance page directs European customers who need in-region processing to Claude on AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex in a European region. The Team plan processes your data on Anthropic’s infrastructure in the United States under the UK Addendum to the standard contractual clauses, which is lawful for most UK firms but is a question to answer in writing before a regulated client asks it. Our GDPR guide covers this in full.

Usage limits, and who will hit them

Every Claude plan meters usage in rolling windows rather than by message count, and the allowance scales with the tier: Pro is the base, a Team Standard seat has more, a Premium seat has five times a Standard seat, and Max is sold as five or twenty times Pro. Anthropic does not publish the allowances as fixed numbers because they depend on the model chosen and the length of what is sent, so the honest guidance is behavioural. A person who asks a dozen questions a day and pastes in the odd document will never see a limit on a Standard seat. A person who runs a 200-page bundle through Claude every morning, or who has Claude Code working on a codebase for hours, will, and that person is who the Premium seat is for.

The mistake to avoid is buying Premium for everyone because one person complained. Mixed seats on one workspace exist precisely so the firm pays £75 for the two heavy users and £15 for the rest. Watch the admin usage view for the first month and move seats individually.

Moving from personal Pro accounts to Team

Most UK firms arrive at Team from a scatter of personal Pro subscriptions on personal cards. The move is mechanical but it has an order. Create the Team workspace on the firm’s domain and connect single sign-on if you have Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, so that access follows the directory. Invite people by their work email. Have each person export anything they want to keep from the personal account, then cancel it; conversations do not migrate between accounts, and Projects have to be rebuilt in the workspace, which is a good moment to rebuild them properly with the firm’s templates. Finally, put the personal-account expense claims to an end in writing, so the firm knows every seat it is paying for.

Claude Code and the desktop apps sign in with the Team account and pick up the workspace’s data settings. Anyone who was using Claude Code from a personal Max plan on the firm’s code should switch the same day, because from that moment the consumer training choice no longer applies to the firm’s repositories.

How to set it up so it is actually used

The plan is cheap. The waste is in the rollout. Teams that buy seats and send a Slack message get a third of the seats used after a month. Teams that do three things get most of them used. Write a one-page policy on what may and may not be pasted in, with three examples of each. Build two or three Projects with the firm’s real templates and tone in them, so the first thing a new user sees is Claude already knowing how the firm writes. And run a ninety-minute session per team on the two tasks that team does most, not a general demo.

We run those sessions for UK firms at a fixed price, and the policy template is part of it. The subscription itself is something you should buy direct from Anthropic; nobody needs a reseller for a two-seat plan.

Common questions

How much does the Claude Team plan cost in the UK?

About £15 a seat a month on annual billing or £19 monthly for a Standard seat, and about £75 or £94 for a Premium seat, before VAT. Anthropic bills in US dollars ($20, $25, $100 and $125), so the sterling amount moves with the exchange rate.

Is there a minimum number of seats?

Two, since July 2026. The plan supports up to 150 seats before you need Enterprise.

Does Claude train on Team plan data?

No. Anthropic’s commercial products, which include Team and Enterprise, do not use your inputs or outputs for model training by default. The consumer plans, Free, Pro and Max, ask each user to choose, with training switched on in the prompt.

Do I pay VAT on Claude Team?

A business without a VAT number pays 20 per cent VAT on top. A VAT-registered business that enters its VAT number in billing settings is normally invoiced without VAT and accounts for it under the reverse charge. Confirm with your accountant.

Can I be invoiced in pounds?

Not through the self-serve checkout, which charges in dollars. Anthropic’s help pages say Team and Enterprise customers can contact sales to pay in another currency.

What is the difference between a Standard and a Premium seat?

Usage. A Premium seat has five times the usage allowance of a Standard seat and costs five times as much. You can mix the two on one workspace, so one or two heavy users can have Premium while everyone else is on Standard.

Is Claude Team worth it over Pro?

For any firm with two or more users, yes. The extra is a few pounds a seat and buys single sign-on, central billing, admin control over connectors, and no training on your content by default. A leaver on a Pro account keeps your client material in their history.

Does the Team plan include the API?

No. API calls made by software you build are billed separately at per-token prices. Seats are for people, the API is for systems.

Is the Team plan GDPR compliant?

It can be used in line with UK GDPR. Anthropic contracts through its Irish entity, offers a data processing addendum that incorporates the UK Addendum to the standard contractual clauses, and holds ISO 27001, ISO 42001 and SOC 2. Compliance is a property of how you configure and use it, not of the plan. Our separate guide walks through it.

When should a UK firm choose Enterprise instead?

When a regulator, insurer or large client will ask for audit logs, custom retention, SCIM provisioning or network controls. Law firms, FCA-regulated advisers and NHS suppliers usually reach that point; most other firms should start on Team.
