Apps we built and run ourselves

Most app development companies show screenshots of client work. We can show you two apps we built, released through Apple and Google review, and still run and pay for every day. That matters because the hard part of an app is rarely the first release. It is the store rules, the subscriptions, the updates that must not break the version already on people’s phones, and the crash at 7am that somebody has to fix.

GoRizzume is our careers app for UK students and graduates. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android from one React Native and Expo codebase, sharing its backend with the web app and a browser extension. It sells subscriptions through Apple and Google in-app billing and runs spoken interview practice with a live AI voice inside the app. It has been on the App Store and Google Play since July 2026.

The Onrolo staff app is the mobile side of our recruitment platform, on iOS and Android for owners, admins, recruiters and field staff, each with their own screens. It covers the attendance register, CV import from the phone’s share sheet, an AI assistant and push notifications, and it ships fixes over the air between store releases. A complete French translation went live across the app in October 2026.

What we build

01Staff and field apps: the phone side of a system your team already uses, for people who are not at a desk, with role-based screens and push notifications.
02Customer apps: bookings, accounts, payments and notifications, for a business whose customers would rather tap than ring.
03Companion apps to an existing system: we build the app against the API or database you already run rather than replacing it.
04App MVPs for founders: a new product on iOS and Android with its backend, one core journey and a way to take money.
05Subscriptions and in-app purchases through Apple and Google, validated on your own server, alongside web payments where the rules allow.
06AI inside the app: spoken conversation, document and photo capture read into structured records, and scoring, with the cost per user measured from the first release.

Three ways to buy an app, and what each costs

Every app is quoted as a fixed price per phase against a written scope, with a list of what is not included. The range is set by how many kinds of user there are, whether the backend already exists, whether money changes hands in the app, and how much has to work offline. Store submission, privacy labels and the review cycle are in every quote, because they are where first-time app projects lose weeks.

What app development costs in the UK

UK app developers that publish prices in 2026 put a first app well into five figures. Magora, a London studio, publishes a startup MVP at £10,000 to £25,000 over six to eight weeks and a production app with backend and admin at £25,000 to £60,000. Softomate’s London pricing starts a React Native starter app at £20,000 to £35,000, live in ten to twelve weeks, with mid-complexity apps at £40,000 to £75,000. Dotsquares puts a simple app or MVP in London at £15,000 to £40,000 and a mid-range business app at £40,000 to £100,000.

Our tiers sit at or below the low end of those bands, for the same reason the rest of our prices do: a small founder-led team that has already built the hard parts once, for its own apps, needs fewer weeks than an agency meeting them for the first time. Quoted agency rates for app developers in London run about £80 to £150 an hour; we do not sell hours.

One codebase for iOS and Android

We build apps with React Native and Expo, the stack our own apps run on: one codebase produces the iPhone, iPad and Android apps, and the web app can share its logic and backend. For most business and consumer apps that means one team, one set of tests and one release process instead of two, which is a large part of why our prices sit where they do.

It also means fixes reach users quickly. Changes that do not touch native code ship over the air in minutes rather than waiting for a store review, which is how we keep our own apps current between releases. Where an app depends on heavy device-specific work, such as augmented reality or continuous sensor processing, that is a different kind of build, and we will say so before quoting.

How an app build runs, to the stores and after

Week one: the scope and acceptance criteria in writing, the screens for the core journey agreed, and a working build on your own phone, through TestFlight on iPhone and an internal test track on Android, before the week is out. Then the core journey, sign-in and the backend, with a new build on your phone every week rather than a demo on ours.

The last stretch is the part first-time app projects underestimate: the store listings, screenshots, privacy labels and data-safety forms, in-app purchase configuration, and the review itself, which can come back with questions. We have taken our own apps through Apple and Google review, so the requirements are in the scope from the start rather than discovered at the end. After launch you hold the code, the store accounts and a runbook, and support is a separate monthly line priced in the same document.

01Scope, acceptance criteria and a first build on your phone in week one
02A new test build every week, on iPhone and Android
03Store listings, privacy labels and in-app purchase set-up handled as part of the build
04Submission to the App Store and Google Play, and answers to reviewers’ questions
05Over-the-air updates configured, so small fixes reach users without a new review
06Handover: repository, store accounts, credentials, runbook and a recorded walkthrough

What you own

The Apple developer account, the Google Play account, the repository, the build service and the backend all sit in your name from day one, not on final payment. An app published under a supplier’s developer account is one you cannot move without the supplier’s help, so we never do it. At handover you receive documentation, credentials, a runbook and a recorded walkthrough, so another developer could release the next version without us.

Web app, mobile app, or both?

Build a phone app when the people using it are away from a desk, when they need notifications, the camera or offline access, or when your customers expect to find you in the store. Build a web app first when the users sit at a desk, or when a new product has not yet shown what belongs on a phone; it reaches the same users for less, and the app can follow once people are paying. Many businesses need both, sharing one backend, which is how our own products are built.

How to choose an app development company in London

Ask every supplier the same questions, us included.

01Can they show you an app of their own on the App Store and Google Play, and tell you what it costs them to run?
02Whose developer accounts will the app be published under? The answer should be yours.
03Is the price fixed against a written scope, with store submission and review included?
04One codebase or two? Two native codebases cost more to build and more to keep in step.
05How do fixes reach users after launch, and how quickly?
06Who writes the code, and could another developer take it over from the handover pack?

Common questions

How much does app development cost in the UK?

UK app developers that publish prices put a first app or MVP at about £10,000 to £40,000 and a mid-complexity app at £25,000 to £100,000 (Magora, Softomate and Dotsquares, read October 2026). Augustova quotes a staff or companion app at £4,000 to £8,000, an app MVP at £8,000 to £15,000, and an app platform at £15,000 to £25,000 per phase, all fixed and excluding VAT.

How long does it take to build an app?

Three to five weeks for a staff or companion app on an existing system, and five to seven weeks for an app MVP including store review. Larger apps are built in phases of four to six weeks. You have a working build on your own phone in the first week.

Do you build for iOS and Android?

Yes, both, from one React Native and Expo codebase, the same way we build our own apps. That produces the iPhone, iPad and Android apps together, with a web app alongside where it is needed.

Are your app developers in London?

Yes. The founders design and build in London, with no offshore hand-off, and meet clients in person across Greater London. As a mobile app development company we work with businesses across the UK on the same fixed-price terms.

Do you handle App Store and Google Play submission?

Yes, as part of every build: the listings, screenshots, privacy labels, in-app purchase set-up, submission and the answers to reviewers’ questions. We have taken our own apps through both reviews, which is why it is in the scope from the start.

Who owns the app and the store accounts?

You do, from day one. The app is published under your own Apple and Google developer accounts, and the repository, build service and backend are in your name, with documentation, credentials and a runbook at handover.

Can you build an app for a system we already have?

Yes, and it is often the cheapest way to get an app: we build against the API or database you already run rather than replacing it. Where there is no API, building one is part of the scope and the quote says so.

What does an app cost to run after launch?

Apple charges an annual developer membership and Google a one-off registration, both paid from your own accounts. Hosting, push notifications and any AI features are stated per month at your expected volume in the quote. Support is a separate monthly line agreed in the same document as the build, and you can stop it and keep the app.

Can you add AI features to an app?

Yes. Our own apps run live AI voice conversation, document reading and scoring. Every AI feature is attributed to a user and a feature from the first release, with a spending ceiling tested before launch, so the running cost per user is known before you set a price.
