Claude pricing in the UK: every plan in pounds, with the VAT worked out.
By Zain M · 25 September 2026 · 11 min read
Claude is priced in US dollars and the sterling cost moves with the rate. At 24 September 2026 rates, Pro is about £13 a month on annual billing or £15 monthly; Max is about £75 for the 5x tier and £151 for the 20x tier; a Team Standard seat is about £15 annual or £19 monthly and a Premium seat about £75 or £94; Enterprise is $20 a seat a month billed annually plus usage; and the API runs from about £0.75 per million input tokens on the smallest model to about £7.55 on the largest. UK VAT of 20 per cent is added unless a VAT-registered business enters its number, in which case the charge is reverse-charged.
Why every UK price for Claude is an estimate
Anthropic publishes one price list, in dollars, and charges individual and Team subscriptions in dollars through Stripe. There is no sterling price list, so any pound figure you read, including ours, is a conversion, and it will differ from your card statement by whatever your bank charged for the exchange. The figures below use the rate on 24 September 2026, one dollar to 75.45 pence, and we say so on every table so that you can redo the arithmetic when the rate moves. A firm that wants a fixed sterling price can ask Anthropic’s sales team to bill a Team or Enterprise plan in another currency; that route is not available on the self-serve checkout.
The second variable is VAT. Anthropic charges UK VAT at 20 per cent on consumer and Team subscriptions unless a business has entered a VAT number in its billing settings, in which case the invoice is issued without VAT and the business accounts for it under the reverse charge. For most VAT-registered firms that is cash-neutral; for a business below the threshold, the true cost is the dollar price plus a fifth. Every figure in this guide is before VAT unless it says otherwise.
The individual plans: Free, Pro and Max
Free is free and has the core product: chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, file creation, code execution, memory, app connections and artifacts. Pro is $17 a month billed annually ($200 upfront) or $20 monthly, and adds higher usage, scheduled tasks, Claude Design, Slides and Docs, Claude Code, Claude Science, Projects, additional models, and the Chrome and Microsoft 365 extensions. Max starts at $100 a month, monthly only, in two tiers, five times or twenty times Pro’s usage, with higher output caps, early access to features and priority during busy periods.
One thing to know before choosing any of the three for work: they are consumer plans. Anthropic asks each user whether their conversations and coding sessions may be used to train future models, presents the option switched on, and keeps data for five years if it stays on and 30 days if it is switched off. A sole trader can use Pro for work with the setting off. A firm with two or more people, or anyone handling client material, should be on Team.
| Plan | Dollar price | About in pounds, ex VAT | With 20% VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | £0 | £0 |
| Pro, annual | $17 a month ($200 upfront) | £12.83 a month (£150.90 upfront) | £15.39 (£181.08) |
| Pro, monthly | $20 a month | £15.09 | £18.11 |
| Max 5x | $100 a month | £75.45 | £90.54 |
| Max 20x | $200 a month | £150.90 | £181.08 |
Anthropic list prices, 24 September 2026, at USD 1 = GBP 0.7545. VAT applies to consumer plans in the UK.
The Team plan: Standard and Premium seats
Team is the business plan for two to 150 people. A Standard seat is $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly; a Premium seat, with five times the usage, is $100 or $125. Seats can be mixed on one workspace. Team includes everything in Pro plus central billing, single sign-on, admin control over connectors, enterprise desktop deployment and, by default, no model training on your content. The two-seat minimum dates from July 2026; before that it was five.
For a ten-person firm on Standard seats, annual billing, that is $2,400 a year, about £1,810 before VAT, or roughly £150 a month for the whole firm. Our separate guide works through the Team plan in detail, including moving people off personal Pro accounts.
| Seat | Annual | Monthly | Ten seats, a year, annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $20, about £15.09 | $25, about £18.86 | $2,400, about £1,810 |
| Premium (5x usage) | $100, about £75.45 | $125, about £94.31 | $12,000, about £9,054 |
Ex VAT. VAT-registered businesses with a number on file are reverse-charged.
Enterprise: a seat price plus usage
Enterprise is listed at $20 a seat a month, billed annually, with usage cost that scales with the model and the task, so the real price depends on how hard the firm uses it and is agreed with Anthropic. What it adds over Team is the compliance layer: spend controls, role-based access, SCIM provisioning, audit logs, a compliance API, custom data retention including a zero-retention option, network access control and IP allow-listing, and a HIPAA-ready configuration. A UK firm needs it when a regulator, an insurer or a large client will ask for the audit trail; most others start on Team.
The API: what software pays
Anything that calls Claude from your own systems, an automation, an agent, a phone assistant, a document pipeline, runs on the API and is billed per million tokens, input and output priced separately. The current list, converted, is below. Prompt caching is included on all models and batch processing halves the price. The commercial API does not train on your data by default and is covered by the same data processing addendum as Team and Enterprise.
Two things from running production systems on these prices. The model is rarely the expensive part of an AI feature; the channels around it, telephony, messaging and integrations, usually cost more. And a well-designed workflow sends most of its calls to the smallest model and reserves the largest for the few steps that need it, which is why the per-token headline overstates what a working system costs. Our running-cost guide sets that out with worked examples.
| Model | Input, per million tokens | Output, per million tokens | About in pounds (input / output) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haiku 4.5 | $1 | $5 | £0.75 / £3.77 |
| Sonnet 5 | $2 | $10 | £1.51 / £7.55 |
| Opus 5.5 | $4 | $20 | £3.02 / £15.09 |
| Fable 5.1 | $10 | $50 | £7.55 / £37.73 |
Anthropic API list prices, 24 September 2026. Batch processing is half price; prompt caching reduces repeated input cost.
Which plan for which firm
A sole trader who writes and analyses: Pro, annual, training switched off, about £13 a month. A sole trader running long documents or Claude Code all day: Max 5x, about £75. Any firm of two or more: Team Standard seats for most people, Premium for the one or two heavy users, about £15 to £19 a seat. A regulated or audited firm: Enterprise. A firm building software or automation on Claude: the API, priced by what the system actually does, on top of whichever seats the people need.
The mistake we see most is paying for Max because one person is hitting limits, when a Team workspace with one Premium seat costs the same and fixes the data question for the whole firm at once.
